Master Sanding - 12/3/07

Several members of the team traveled down to Janicki Industries on Monday, the 3rd, to begin the finish detailing of the monocoque plug. After a full day's work, the plug should be ready to travel back to the VRI so that mold production can begin.
Engine dynamometer fuel tanks will be pressure tested Monday night or Tuesday morning. As far as components go, the steering column support has been completed and the intake manifold should be complete by Friday.

Janicki Presentation - Week of 11/26/07

On Wednesday the 21st, several members of the team met with a group of engineers at Janicki Industries in Sedro Wooley to discuss the chassis tub for Viking 43. A few alterations were made based on their advice and the manufacturing process was finalized. Janicki will cut the chassis tub plug (in two halfs) in a large 5th axis mill. Hand sanding by team members will begin the mold-building process. If all goes well, this step will begin in the next few weeks.
The rest of V43 is coming along smoothly- the new F4i may run by the end of the week, the base intake manifold will be built, and machining of stock for suspension components has begun.
As for Viking 38, a fastener failure during the previous testing session at Paccar Inc. Technical Center in Burlington caused major damage to the left rear of the vehicle. After breaking loose, the lefthand stub axle swung itself into a number of components, including the rear a-arm and rear toe rod. Repair begins this week but the team's main focus will be Viking 43 for the time being.

PCA Autocross 11/11/07

A fair amount of progress was made over winter break. The upper chassis and nose cone tooling were made successfully, with the first nose cone attempt failing. They turned out to be the some of the, if not the best molds the VRI and the FSAE team has ever produced. Once the lower half is successfully produced all three tools will be taken to Fiberworks to be fully post cured to above 350°F. Thanks to Charles Coffey for his advice and help with the tools and post curing as well as a big thanks to Janicki for all of their help and support!     Check out the V43 Progress page for more detailed info!
